Cathedral of Palma La Seu

The top attraction in Palma is certainly "La Seu" (Catalan for the bishopric), a masterpiece of Gothic architecture and one of the most beautiful cathedrals in the world. With its outstanding location, overlooking the Bay of Palma, the cathedral dominates the city panorama. In the 13th century King Jaume I made true his vow, to build St. Maria a church, "as no human eye has ever beheld". The construction of the cathedral lasted until the 16th century. The mighty cathedral includes countless filigree stone works of art, such as the design of the portals.

Inside the cathedral particularly the colorful Rosette from the 14th century is impressing. With 12 m diameteris it is the largest rose window in the world. It consists of more than 1,200 colorful pieces of glass and is called "the eye of the Gothic". Morning sunlight floods the cathedral and dipps it in golden colors, which is why it is also known as the Cathedral of Light. Weekdays "La Seu" can be entered through the Cathedral Museum.
