In order to increase its attractiveness as a tourism center for the entire region, the Mallorcan authorities have enabled free WiFi access all over the island since 2014. In some parts the works are still under way, but in Palma de Mallorca, especially in the city center and on Playa de Palma, you’ll most likely get excellent coverage with free Wi-Fi access. The hotspots were also technically improved so that you can move around the city center without the connection being dropped. Once you leave Palma, you’ll find that the project has not advanced too much, and it’s quite difficult to find an area with strong free WiFi connection.

Registration on WLAN

In principle, logging in to a free Wi-Fi hotspot should be very simple. Check your device (smartphone, notebook, etc.) for the list of available WiFi hotspots, and select the one from MallorcaWifi, connect to it, and confirm the terms and conditions. However, you should keep in mind that a few restrictions apply for the use of free WiFi connection. After 30 minutes, you have to log in again. Also, the use is limited to a period of 7 days and a maximum data transfer of 500 MB.

Wi-Fi Connection outside of Palma

Even if the national government has started an initiative to improve the free WiFi connection rate for the entire island, once you leave Palma you’ll find that the project has not advanced much. In some places you’ll find the free WiFi connection quite usable, but in most others you’ll have to rely on the paid hotspots provided by the hotels and Internet cafes.
